About Us

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) was founded in 1960 as a transformation of the Nigerian branch of British Medical Association, started in 1951. As the umbrella body for all medical and dental professionals registered and licensed to practice in Nigeria, NMA caters for the interest of its members, promotes health and allied sciences and helps in shaping national policies and legislations aimed at improving the health of Nigerians. The NMA is the largest medical association in the West African sub-region with over 37,000 members across the thirty-six state branches and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja branch. The Kaduna State chapter is one of the largest and most vibrant of these branches and has close to 1,500 members spread all over three zones of Zaria, Kaduna and Kafanchan. The State Officers’ Committee (SOC) headed by the Chairman is the organ responsible for the day to day management of the association. The SOC reports to the State Executive Council (SEC) on a regular basis and the latter in turn reports to the Annual General Meeting which is the highest decision making organ of the association.
